Luxembourg occupation cover,
#N17-32 (last day of use).
SCV $21.25
Three covers containing the complete set of sixteen stamps
issued on December 5, 1940. Obviously philatelic and overpays
the postal rates by a considerable margin. Probably never saw
the inside of a postman’s bag. The period of usage was short for
this set having been issued in late 1940 but losing valid use on
March 31, four months later. They were replaced by another
over-printed set which expired in June, then German stamps only.
Final Bid: $8.00 (DK)

Close up of censor mark
Click on images to enlarge |
Austria post-war censored cover,
#460, 470 & 476.
SCV $1.65
The stamps received no cancels so there is no date or city
identified. However there is a return address mentioning Graz, a
small city south-east of Vienna, near the Slovenia border. The
stamps were issued in 1945 and the censor tape (Geoffnet!) is
capped with a British censor stamp. The British, French and
Americans ended censorship in 1947 so the letter was probably
mailed in 1945 or 46. The 10 and 40 pfennig stamps are minimum
value and the 80 pfennig are 55¢ each (not on cover).

Germany (Bavaria) P254.
SCV $10.00
A 1934-35 postcard picturing an important looking building
(castle?) in Munich. A nice aerial photograph where,
interestingly I see what
may be people but no planes, trains or automobiles. Not even a
horse-drawn “honey wagon”! The number (P254) comes from an old
Higgins and Gage catalog.

German feldpost hospital cover.
SCV $10.00
This one has been determined to be a reserve field hospital
cover because of the blind cancel with no town mentioned to hide
the location of the hospital. This was common with feldpost
letters. The circular mark at the lower left is probably a
censor mark. The reverse is blank so no scan.

comprise the complete set.

Luxembourg occupation cover,
N17-32.
SCV $21.25
This cover contains the complete set of sixteen stamps issued on
December 5, 1940. Obviously this one is philatelic and overpays
the postal rates by a considerable margin. Still, it appears to
have gone through the mails. The cover was sealed (and opened)
and has one postal marking (the hand-written “38”) and a
receiving cancel from Cologne. The period of usage was short for
this set, having been issued in late 1940 but losing valid use
on March 31, four months later.
Final Bid: $11.00 (DK)
